Written briefing + two sittings · Kuala Lumpur or scheduled video

Subscription health review

A two- to three-week reading of paid cohorts, refunds, and first renewals, delivered as a written briefing for founders and finance.

Two colleagues reviewing papers at a bright table

Price basis: From RM 9,800 per review, quoted after a file check · Typical span: Two to three weeks

Who it is for

Independent app publishers and small subscription teams who already charge through Apple, Google, or a direct billing partner, and who need a second reading before a board paper, a price change, or a hiring decision. Typical paying bases we have sat with range from a few thousand to a few hundred thousand subscribers. We are not a fit for pre-revenue prototypes.

Result

You leave with a bound-length briefing (usually twelve to twenty pages) that states, in order: which cohorts are actually paying after the intro window; where refunds and billing retries distort the story; and which two or three questions are still unanswered because the files cannot support them. The last section is a recommended next sitting, not a shopping list.

Scope

Included: reconstruction of trial start, first paid charge, first renewal, and refund flags from the extracts you provide; two working sittings (opening and readout); written questions we send after the file check; the briefing in PDF. Excluded: building or hosting tracking; rewriting your paywall; speaking to your investors without you in the room; ongoing monitoring after the readout.

Who does the work

Nadia Rahman leads the file reconstruction. Farid Ismail chairs the readout and writes the finance-facing pages. Both sit in Kuala Lumpur. A junior associate may prepare tables; they do not present without one of the two named people present.

Process

  1. File check (three to five days). You send payout exports and a subscriber extract. We confirm whether first renewal can be seen at all.
  2. Opening sitting (half day). We agree which countries, SKUs, and intro offers are in scope.
  3. Quiet week. We build cohort tables and annotate odd weeks (store outages, price tests, festive promotions common in Malaysia and Singapore).
  4. Readout sitting. We walk the briefing, then leave you the document.

Duration and place

Two to three weeks from a complete file pack. Sittings at our Kuala Lumpur desk or by video. We do not retain a copy of identifiable subscriber rows after thirty days unless you ask us to keep a redacted pack for a follow-up.

Preparation

Export store financial reports for at least four complete renewal cycles. If you use an introductory offer, mark its calendar dates. Tell us if family sharing or student pricing exists; those rows confuse an unlabelled extract.

Constraints

We will not invent a retention curve where refunds are missing. If Play and App Store SKUs cannot be joined, the briefing treats them as two products. Malay-language paywall copy can be included if you supply a translation; we work in English.

Price

Reviews start at RM 9,800. Larger catalogues (many SKUs, several intro prices, web plus store billing) are quoted after the file check. A fifty percent booking deposit holds the fortnight. The balance is due on delivery of the briefing.

Next step

Write to us with the store, a rough paid-subscriber count, and the decision the briefing must support. We reply within three working days with a yes, a no, or a request for a sample extract.
